Mar Sáez

Mar Saéz combines her work as a freelance photographer with the development of personal projects. She uses her projects to explore the complexity of identity and biopolitics, while attempting to create a portrait of the realities that concern her. She has won the LUX prize for Professional Photography twice in the ‘Documentary’ category. Since 2008, she has also participated in various solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the United States, and at fairs such as Paris Photo, ARCO, Estampa and London Art Fair.

In October 2016, she published her photobook ‘Vera y Victoria’ followed by ‘Gabriel’ in 2019. Both books were published by the French publisher André Frère Editions and presented at Paris Photo. She also published the newspaper DÚO-A ‘Sobre el viaje por carretera con desconocidos’ ‘Road Trips with Strangers’ (edited by Phree) together with the writer Miguel Ángel Hernández. Since 2017, her work has been exhibited in Can Basté Cultural Center (Barcelona), Pilar Serra’s Gallery, Sala Canal Isabel II Museum and San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Madrid), Baffest Festival (Baracaldo, Basque Country), Les Rencontres d’Arles (France), Sala Amárica (Vitoria) Alcobendas Art Center (Madrid) and Retine Argentique Gallery (Marseille), among others. More recently, her work was also exhibited at Tigomigo Gallery (Terrassa, Barcelona), F22 Foto Space (Hong Kong), KLAP Maison pour la Danse (Marseille), National Library of Spain (Madrid), the Photographic Society of Gipuzkoa (Gipuzkoa, Basque Country), the Párraga Center (Murcia), the London Art Fair, the Desenfocada Gallery (Málaga) and at the PhotoEspaña Festival (Futures 2020, Madrid).

She collaborates with different media including the magazine 5W and El País, and has taught at the University of Alicante, at the Complutense University and the LENS Photography School, the TAI School of the Arts, and the Master PIC.A, within the framework of PhotoEspaña, in Madrid.

Her work is part of public and private collections in Europe, Asia and the USA. As an artist, Sáez is represented by the Pilar Serra Gallery in Madrid, the Fifty Dos Gallery In Barcelona and the Institute Agency in Los Angeles.
